The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a pan Igbo socio-political organisation, has expressed its dissapointment in the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari after his Hausa voice note to Nigerians.
The group while beratting the president for addressing the nation in Hausa language noted that the president has brought the nation to yet another low standard.
In its statement signed by the publicity secretary of the group, Chuks Ibegbu, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo noted that Nigeria has descended to the level of a ‘Banana Republic’.
The statement comes on the heels of the president’s Sallah message to Muslim faithfuls which was released by the presidency as part of its strategy to debunk reports that the president, Muhammadu Buhari is suffering from speech impairment.
Speaking in Enugu on Sunday, Ibegbu noted that the authenticity of the message purported to be the president’s voice should be investigated.
He further added that if the audio was not found to be authentic then the country is in a big problem.
He added: “First of all, we have to ascertain the veracity of the voice because in these days of technology, a lot of things can be cloned, including human voice.
“But if it is true that Mr. President addressed Nigerians in a local language, it means something is wrong somewhere.
“I want to believe that the voice is not real, but if it is Mr. President that actually spoke, then, it means that we have descended to the level of a Banana Republic.
“The Federal Government should tell Nigerians whether it is actually Mr. President’s voice, or not.”
The spokesman further added that Buhari could not have addressed Nigerians in Hausa, pointing to the fact that there was some sort of foul play.
“Which message; message to who; in what language? Is Hausa our lingua franca? If Mr. President wants to address us, he should talk to us in English, which is our lingua franca.”
