3 Min Read

Following the arrest of Nigerian criminal mastermind and kidnap kingpin, Evans, born Chukwudem Onwamadike, suspects implicated and arrested in connection to the case have reportedly been set free.

News source, Vanguard reports that some of the suspects arrested by the Police in connection with investigations into allegations of kidnapping and armed robbery have been released after a Magistrate court siting in Yaba granted Kingsley Egbeonu, Emeka Egbuligha and Tochukwu Nwosu bail.

The source close to the ongoing case further revealed that the kidnap kingpin, Evans, has not been responding well to interrogations as he has failed to name his accomplice in the kidnapping business. He was however reported to have mentioned one name which has since been taken as confidential by the police as investigations into his accomplice is reportedly treated with utmost secrecy.

The release of the three arrested suspect however came after testimony given by one of the kidnap kingpin’s victims, Chief Dona Dunu’s testimony fell apart as he had earlier claimed they masterminded his kidnap and plotted to steal from his warehouse.

The three, all staff of Maydon Pharmacy in Ilupeju, whose owner, Chief Dona Dunu, escaped from Evans’ den at Igando after paying N150million, were reported to have been heard discussing with the kidnappers on how to remove goods from his warehouse. Chief Dona Dunu further told the police that he overheard one of the Pharmacists working for him discussing with his abductors as they negotiated his ransom.

However, upon arrest of the kidnap kingpin, Evans and members of his gang were reported to have denied knowing the arrested persons while he was being paraded at the command headquarters in Ikeja,

A search by the police on the warehouse further proved that nothing was tampered with contrary to earlier claims by the victim that he overheard one of the suspects discussing with his abductors how to part with his goods in the warehouse.

The suspects’ lawyers upon confirmation proceeded to the Yaba Magistrate court where the suspects were freed.
