Man Gets Home Confinement After Robbing Bank To Get Away From Wife

Handcuffed Prisoner

A man, Lawrence John Ripple, who robbed a bank some months ago just so he could be jailed and to get away from his wife has been sentences to six months home confinement and a total of 50 hours of community service.

According to the federal prosecutor, Ripple’s sentence was on grounds of bank robbery after he pleaded guilty to the one count charge of bank robbery in January.

Ripple, 71, who was originally faced with 37 months in prison was reported to have been given a slap on the wrist after he had on September 2, 2016 walked into a bank, and gave the teller a note which reads: “I have a gun give me your cash,” and got the sum of $2,924. However, instead of making away with the proceeds, he stayed, and gave himself up to authorities.

When questioned why he decided to rob a bank, Ripple told FBI Special Agent Eric Beltz that his motive was to get away from his wife as his marriage had apparently hit a rough spot.

FBI Agent, Eric Beltz said: “During the post Miranda interview, Ripple relayed that he and his wife had an argument at home and Ripple no longer wanted to be in the situation. Ripple wrote out his demand note in front of his wife Remedios Ripple and told her he’d rather be in jail than at home. Ripple then walked to the bank and robbed it.”
