Students of the University of Maiduguri who heaved in relief as the brouhaha between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities came to a close, are suddenly thrown into a more serious panic as deadly Islamist sect Boko Haram has threatened to launch an attack on the University.
The sect recently attacked military installations in the State, so any assurances of safety by the Federal Government are sure to fall on deaf ears as the Jonathan administration’s track record of protecting life and limb is beyond poor to say the least.
A security source told Punch newspapers that Boko Haram also warned Nigerians to steer clear of the following Federal highways, Maiduguri-Damaturu-Bauchi Road and the Maiduguri, Damboa-Biu-Gombe Road.
The source said, “For now the city looks calm but there is so much tension. We just thank God that another attack has not taken place after the one that took place last month.
“But Maiduguri is tense now because Boko Haram threatening to attack selected places in the city.
“They wrote saying that they would attack the University of Maiduguri; they also warned people to stay away from Federal highways such as the Borno-Yobe highway and the Maiduguri-Biu highway. Both you know, are major highways.
“Already, they have launched an attack on motorists slaughtering several of them along the Maiduguri-Biu Road. I don’t have the exact number of those killed in the attack.
