FG, Sokoto State Govt., partners, spend N1.2bn on SDGs

Projects worth N1.2 billion have been executed under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in six Local Government Areas of Sokoto State, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal has revealed.

The governor made the disclosure on Tuesday at the launch of distribution of materials, drugs and motorcycles under SDG/CGS 2015 Local Government track project, held at Kware Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the intervention comprises four sectors, namely: Education, healthcare services, water supply and agriculture.

Tambuwal said that N200 million will be expended in each of the six benefiting local government areas of Kware, Wurno, Kebbe, Rabah, Isa and Shagari.

 

”The programme is being financed by the three tiers of government, where 50 per cent of the fund comes from the Federal Government, while the state and local governments contribute 30 per cent and 20 per cent respectively.

“Of the these figures, N414,963,614.50 is earmarked to support education activities in the state, while N106,489,673.00 will be expended through the provision of essential drugs, construction and renovation of primary health centres in the state.

“Similarly, the sum of 265,548.046 has been committed for the construction of motorized and solar boreholes across the six benefiting local government areas.

“On Agriculture, N30 million will be distributed as grant to agric cooperative societies, where one million naira will be given to each of the five cooperative societies in each of the benefiting LGAs,” he said.

 

 

The governor further said that the state government will continue to meet its entire obligations to the citizens for effective management of development assistance to bring rapid growth to the teeming populace through partnership.

In his goodwill message, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), represented by Adesegun Ogunleye, said the programme was introduced to improve human development index in Nigeria.

According to him, it will also give states and local governments financial and technical support to ensure achievement of the set goals.

He commended the effort of state government on education, health care and community development.(NAN)
