Bille people commend Rivers govt. over proposed shore protection project

2 Min Read

The people of Bille in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers have commended the state government for its decision to embark on the “Swamp and Shore Protection’’ project in the community.

The indigenes made the commendation in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Port Harcourt.

NAN recalls that Gov. Nyesom Wike had recently announced to the Bille Council of Chiefs in Port Harcourt that the project would be included in the state’s 2018 budget.

The Bille community was recently ravaged by flood which resulted in loss of property worth millions of naira.

Mr Ben Alabo, a teacher said that the project would prevent the community from being washed away by erosion.

“This is a welcome development for my people and I thank the governor for the plan” Alabo said.

A business man, Mr Daniel Opougu, while commending the state governor for the planned project, said the people would ever remain grateful.

Opougu noted that flooding and erosion were major problems being faced by the community, adding that the people had wished and hoped for solution for years.

He said that now that the governor had made a pronouncement on the matter, the people were a bit relieved.

Mrs Ada Glad urged the governor to keep to his promise of including the project in the 2018 budget of the state.

Mr Bright Awori said, “Wike is a people-oriented leader who has a listening ear. We thank God that his administration has us in mind’’.

“If not for him, who would have given us solution to this problem? We have been suffering and have lost so much to flood and erosion.’’ (NAN)
