Hollywood star, Ben Affleck’s 12-year-old marriage to Jennifer Garner is officially over.
According to E! News, the couple filed for divorce this week, in the documents they filed, they are asking for joint legal and physical custody of their children.
This comes nearly 2 years after they announced their separation and months after rumours made headlines, alleging that they were working to mend their relationship.
Recall that in July 2015, the Hollywood power couple released a joint statement a day after their tenth anniversary, announcing their separation. A short while after, Affleck was accused of having an affair with their nanny Christine Ouzounian.
The story dominated headlines, but the couple worked together, co-parenting, and were sometimes spotted attending counseling together.
Later, in her Vanity interview, Jennifer Garner described Affleck as the love of her life. “He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous. He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow,” she said.
However, early in March, a source told E! News that the couple remains friendly to each other. “Their relationship is very fluid and nothing has really changed,” one source told E! News. “They have been working at their relationship for the past few years.”
Well, the duo have decided to dissolve their union, and TMZ adds that the couple is “negotiating a financial settlement”; they did not sign a prenuptial agreement.
