The Jigawa Government has disengaged 108 workers of its Three Star Hotel from service, Malam Zubairu Sulaiman, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, confirmed on Monday.
Sulaiman told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse that the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Aminu Sidi, announced the development when he addressed the hotel management.
The spokesperson said that government, however, retained 47 other employees in the hotel.
He said that the commissioner explained that the development was part of efforts to privatise the hotel by handing it over to professionals, for proper management.
Sulaiman, however, said that the government had paid the entitlements and benefits of the disengaged staff, amounting to N84 million.
According to him, the government also paid the N20 million debt incurred by the last administration to contractors and suppliers at the hotel.
He added that it also paid N8 million as revenue to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The spokesperson said the commissioner commended the disengaged workers for their selfless service to the state.
In his remarks, Alhaji Garba Musa Kaugama, the acting General Manager of the hotel, commended the state government for the prompt payment of entitlements to the disengaged staff.
The workers also promised to be available whenever their services were needed by the government. (NAN)
