A 47-year-old driver, Magaji Mohammed has been accused of raping his sister-in-law and in the process getting her pregnant.
Mr Mohammed who resides at Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge bordering on rape was brought before an Ikeja chief magistrate’s court on Monday.
The prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offence in November 2016 and February 28, 2017.
According to Ogu, “the accused raped the girl when his wife travelled out of town. And when the girl discovered that she missed her period, she told the accused.
“The accused gave the girl a herbal concoction, leading to an abortion.”
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 147 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, entered a “not guilty” plea. Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni granted the accused N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till April 12 for mention.
