Adhere to professional ethics– Gov Ganduje charges surveyors

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has tasked surveyors not to compromise quality assurance in handling their jobs, to save lives and property as well as to promote development.

He noted that the worrisome cases of collapsed buildings in Nigeria point largely to the failure of construction expects like surveyors to do their occupations in line with the established code of conduct.

The governor, who was speaking while receiving a delegation from the Northern Surveyors Forum, urged them to be guided by ethics, noting that ethical compliance is key to maintaining public confidence in the surveying profession.

He described surveying “as a very important profession because the planning and construction of houses and all civil engineering projects as based on survey measurements”.

“Government will continue to utilize your members as consultants in the construction of infrastructure in Kano”, the governor stated, pointing out that his administration is currently constructing capital intensive projects across various spheres of human endeavor.

In his speech, the Chairman, Northern Surveyors Forum, Alhaji Badamasi Tahir appealed to the state government to lift the embargo on employment of Surveyors into the state Civil Service.

He maintained that, Kano, being one of the states with the largest land mass in Northern Nigeria needed the services of surveyors not only in the provision of infrastructure but also other professional land management related jobs.

Alhaji Badamasi praised the Ganduje administration for converting the state Ministry of Land to a bureau, directly under the office of the governor, saying the permission granted for the state Polytechnic to offer diploma programme in Surveying is also a welcome development.
