2 Min Read

Five of the G7 governors, namely Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Sule Kamido (Jigawa), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), and Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his hilltop mansion in Abeokuta, Ogun state on Monday to discuss the lingering crisis in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

After the meeting, Governor Babangida, spoke with the media concerning the reason for the meeting and its outcome. He was flanked by the other governors as he addressed the media.

Aliyu said, “You may recall that when (the) issues started, we consulted our elders. So, this is part of the consultation; more so that we are coming to the resolution of the matters. We believe that very soon, we’ve been discussing with the President, discussing about these matters.

“We believe after the lull of the pilgrimages, we are all back; so, we need to consult again to find out if there is any variable that has intervened and we are very happy things are going normal.”

The Governors also met with former Interim National Government leader, Ernest Shonekan and former Minister for Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma at their residences in Ikoyi and Victoria Island respectively.

After consulting with Shonekan for approximately one hour, Amaechi told reporters: “We are consulting with the elders across the country on the issues that affect the party and the nation in general. We are talking about the ills in the country.”

Shonekan told the governors: “God has given us all the things needed for growth and progress. We must try as much as possible to cooperate with one another, to make sure that the country becomes the envy of all.”

Amaechi said the APC meeting in Riverst State would hold today.
