Why I Don’t Wear Customs Uniform – Customs CG, Hameed Ali Replies Senate

2 Min Read

The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs, Hameed Ali, has replied the Nigerian Senate after he was instructed to appear before the house in his official uniform on 15th of March.

The Customs CG during an interview with TVC today stated the reason why he doesn’t wear uniform in reply to the demands of the Nigerian senate.

Speaking on the request to appear before the House as a proper customs Officer, Hameed Ali, who has never worn his uniform since he assumed office in 2015 said: “No! I was not appointed Comptroller General of Customs to wear uniform. Does Uniform work or the person behind the uniform?

If we suspect that smuggled items are taken into your house, we have the right to cordone that house and go in to search. Am I doing my job or not? I think that should be what should worry the National Assembly.”

The invitation by the Nigerian senate came as a result of an unanimous decison to probe the controversial new policy of Customs Service asking car owners to report to their offices for the verification of import duties on the car they had fully paid for.

The Nigerian senate is also looking to probe the Customs CG on the latest search and seizure development predominantly targetted at storage houses and shops.
