A Washington-based Pew Research Center has released a new data predicting the spread of Islam to all parts of the globe by 2070.
According to the research result, Islam is expected to overtake Christianity to become the world’s most popular religion by the year 2070.
Stating the reason behind the forecast, researchers at the Washington-based Pew Research Center cited migration as one of the factors enabling the spread of the religion adding that the one single factor has aided the spread of the religion to some regions including North America and Europe.
The research data which tips Islam to be the fastest growing religion pegs adherents at 1.6 billion people which stands at about 23% of the world’s population while Christians believers are pegged at 2.2 billion, 31% of the global population.
Another factor aiding the spread of the religion according to the research is the birth rate among Muslims than any other religious group with each Muslim woman having an average of 3.1 offspring compared to the 2.3 offspring data recorded for all other groups combined.
The report noted: “While it does not change the global population, migration is helping to increase the Muslim population in some regions, including North America and Europe.’
“According to the study, America’s Muslims number 3.3 million which is about 1% of the population but that figure is expected to rise to 2.1% by 2050 while India will overtake Indonesia as the country with the world’s largest Muslim population.
