The Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Saleh Dunoma, has instructed engineers to begin repair works on all facilities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, with immediate effect.
Dunoma gave the directive after inspecting the facilities at the airport on Sunday in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the directive is coming after the unscheduled inspection visit made on Thursday to the airport by the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
Dunoma, who was accompanied by other top FAAN management staff, inspected the escalators, conveyor belts, departure and arrival terminals and other sections of the airport.
He said the aim of the tour was to come up with plans to implement the acting president’s instructions regarding repairs that needed to be carried out
“There are few things we need to fix immediately. I say immediately; immediately means immediately.
“This is a Presidential Directive. We will not waste any time and that is why you see us working on a weekend.
“We will still work tomorrow. We just have to come up with strategic implementation plans so that we don’t disrupt operations. This is key to us,’’ Dunoma said.
He said that some mechanical equipment like the travelators also needed to be fixed.
“Other areas are the toilet facilities and some other external facilities that were affected, which are functionaing inside arrival and departure halls.
“We have a contract on the chillers but funding has been a problem for us. However, we are pushing to see that it is fixed,’’ the FAAN boss said.
Dunoma also assured travellers of improved facilities at the airport, adding that FAAN had commenced work on them with the support of the Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika. (NAN)
