Rev. Fr Clement Attah of Via Christi Society says couples can only find happiness if they live in Jesus Christ as marriage by itself cannot be a source of happiness.
Attah gave this insight in his sermon on Saturday at the St Gabriel’s Chapel, Makurdi during the wedding ceremony of Mr Justin Ogalue and Miss Lucy Nwachukwu, a reporter with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to Attah, a lot of couples end up being unhappy in matrimony because their union was not anchored in Jesus Christ.
The cleric, therefore, advised newlyweds to ensure they to work closely with one another, stressing that two people cannot work together unless they agree.
Attah, who said there was power in unity, urged the new couple to live as one and inseparable family for their overall benefit.
The highpoint of the ceremony was the wedding liturgy, where the bride and groom exchanged marriage vows after which the couples exchanged rings, as a representation of the vows and promises the bride and groom had exchanged.
The marriage certificates were signed, bonding Lucy and Justin as husband and wife in the lifelong covenant of marriage (a sacrament for baptized Christians).
Lucy and Justin eventually received their marriage licences from the church and exchanged kisses, a symbolic gesture to seal the sacred matrimonial vows they had just exchanged.
At the colourful wedding reception, the Chairman of the event, Prof. Moses Obasi, encouraged the couple to live in peace at all times regardless of any form of misunderstanding.
Obasi said if they lived in peace, they would be able to overcome all the life challenges they would face.
The Mother of the Day, Mrs Comfort Abo, urged the couple to complement one another, adding that by so doing they would live in harmony and make up for the inadequacies of one another.
Abo advised the couple to always consult one another on important issues and not relegate one another to the background. (NAN)
