Ban on importation of vehicles via land borders led to unemployment –agent

2 Min Read

Mr Thomas Agbotounso, a Licensed Clearing Agent, says recent ban on importation of vehicles through the land borders has led to job losses and increased unemployment rate .

Agbotounso told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja that although the ban was a welcome development to boost the economy, but would have been done gradually.

Agbotounso, who is from Republic of Benin, said the decision of the Nigerian government had affected people from Nigeria and Benin Republic in terms of falling standard of living.

“The decision of Nigerian government on the ban is not bad because it will really boost the economy, but it can still be done gradually.

“My suggestion is that Nigeria can give a time frame before the ban because I think necessary infrastructure needed to be in place before the ban.

“If we go back to our country (Republic of Benin), we have to talk to our government to reduce the clearing charges.

“That is the price to bring out a vehicle from Cotonou port because I must say the ban has affected many people in both countries as many people are surviving on the car business in both countries,’’ he said. (NAN)
