NACCIMA calls on FG to quickly pass 2017 appropriation bill

3 Min Read
President Muhammadu Buhari

The Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA ) has called on the Federal Government to quickly pass the 2017 budget into law to fast track the development of the country.

Dr. Bassey Edem, President of NACCIMA, made the call on Thursday at the association’s 2017 first quarter council meeting in Abuja.

According to Edem, quick passage of the budget into law will afford the private sector operators greater leverage to achieve their targets for the year and also encourage Foreign Direct Investors into the country.

Edem said that NACCIMA, as non-profit making institution, was partnering the Federal Government to ensure a sustained growth and development in the nation.

He explained that the association was actively involved in policy formulation which had impacted positively on socioeconomic activities of states and the nation in general.

He added that in view of the association’s desire to hasten the economic development of the nation, “NACCIMA is presently constructing its trade and investment centre in FCT which is at its completion stage’’.

He assured the Federal Government of the association’s support, adding that NACCIMA was looking forward to an enhanced cordial relationship with Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ABUCCI).

Edem expressed appreciation to the government for its cooperation with the organised private sector to drive the country’s economic recovery and growth.

Earlier, the Minister of FCT, Alhaji Muhammed Bello, expressed appreciation to the association, adding that his administration was ready to assist the organisation in its activities.

The minister, represented by Obi Okonkwo, Acting Director in the Department of Planning Research and Statistics, said the government had given some plots of land to ABUCCI for its activities.

Bello called on NACCIMA to assist in bailing out the nation from the current economic recession, adding that government would do more to assist the association.

Mr Tony Ejinkeonye, the President of ABUCCI, called on chambers of commerce across the country to become beacons of hope for their members and the common man.
