The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has inaugurated 107 officers of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) and 109 Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) to enhance airports operations.
The Managing Director of FAAN, Mr Saleh Dunoma, represented by Mr Sadiku Rafindadi, Director of Finance and Accounts, spoke at the inauguration of the officers at FAAN Staff School, Ikeja.
Dunoma said that inauguration of the new officers was part of the agency’s commitment to human capacity development in order to meet the highest standards of professionalism and best practices in the industry.
The FAAN chief commended the parade instructors and trainees for their impressive performance, professional carriage and excellent drill.
He said that the new officers’ painstaking rehearsals and hard work had paid off, urging them to dedicate themselves to service in their chosen careers.
“This career path is challenging and rewarding.
“In the course of pursuing it, you have a great responsibility to live up to the vision of FAAN to be amongst the best airport groups in the world.
“You should be vigilant and ensure that you do not become the weak link in this value chain.
“While acknowledging the inherent challenges in your operations, you must guard against temptation and compromises.
“You should always put service first before any other consideration, as this organisation places integrity above all other things,” he said.
Earlier, the FAAN Director of Human Resources and Administration, Mrs Salamatu Umar-Eluwa, said that the officers were part of the online recruitment that took place in 2015.
According to Umar-Eluwa, the first batch of the officers were trained between July and October last year and have since been integrated into the system.
“You have been recruited to serve in the paramilitary arms of this organisation where total disciplines, professional conduct, unalloyed loyalty and special vigilance are required.
“I believe that the quality of training you received has adequately prepared you for these. Our expectations of you are very high and I believe you have all it takes to exceed them.
“I commend the instructors and coordinators of the training programme for their commitment to the management’s vision,” she said. (NAN)
