PDP Bomb scare: Members flee national office, gunmen disrupt party’s campaign in Delta

A threat which source has not been confirmed created a high-tensioned stampede at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wuse Zone 5 Wadata plaza in Abuja on Friday.

All the party officials including the top ones who were present as at the time the buzz broke out made frantic efforts to evacuate the building immediately as no one waited to confirm the authenticity of the alert.

Neither the Directors nor National Working Committee (NWC) members waited to confirm the authenticity of the news before evacuating the Wadata plaza.

Nevertheless, some other staff at the middle and junior level spotted at the Wadata plaza did not leave the premises but gathered around probably discussing the possibility of the bomb attack.

The National Auditor who was the only NWC member present as at the time the news broke ahd left the area immediately while it was learnt that all other.

A credible source who craved anonymity at the party secretariat revealed that a director of the party got the alert and relayed it to the top officials present at the secretariat as at the time.

In a related development in Delta State, youthful armed men disrupted a campaign train of a PDP candidate, Chief Emmanuel Aguariavwodo on Friday.

The campaign activity was in respect of the forthcoming October 12th Delta Central Senatorial by-election.

The group was said to have been held hostage at the palace of the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, HRM Ogurimerime Ukori I, Kokori, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State.

A source who witnessed the riotous event  said the armed youth suspected to be loyalists of the arrested kidnap kingpin, Kelvin, invaded the procession and set at least 10 cars on fire and destroyed many others.

It was revealed that the armed men who seemed not to be on a mission to kill were able to overpower security operatives with their sophisticated guns but left no one dead at the scene.

“The boys who seemed to have soft pedaled at press time, were not out to kill, otherwise they would have killed every member of the campaign team including their host” the source said.

But the government has assured that more policemen have been deployed and the situation has been put under control.

Some party members were said to have sustained injuries including an unnamed Federal House of Representatives member.
