An estate agent Friday Ahonsi, 31, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N21.350 million from two persons under the pretext of selling plots of land to them.

The defendant, who resides in Ikeja, is facing trial for conspiracy, stealing, and forgery and obtaining by false pretext.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the offences were committed between 2008 and 2017 at different places in Ikeja.

He said that the defendant obtained N18 million from one Mr Kingsley Atere, on the pretext of selling 92 plots of land and a bungalow at Masters Golden City Estate, Ofada , Ogun State.

“The defendant also collected N3.350 million from one Barr. Jerry Ilimezekhe on the pretext of selling 8 plots of land to him in Ogun State.

“The defendant also forged a document owned by Sim Properties & Homes Ltd which he gave to the two complainants as the original documents for the lands,” he said.

The prosecutor told the court that after committing the crime, the defendant disappeared to an unknown destination.

“All efforts to get in touch with him proved abortive until he was sighted and apprehended,’’ the prosecutor said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 285(1), 312(1) 363 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A Layinka granted the defendant to a bail of N2 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb. 14 for mention. (NAN)
