The President General of Tiv Cultural and Social Association in Taraba, Mr Goodman Dahida, on Friday called on the Federal Government to establish a Special Fund for victims of herdsmen/farmers’ conflicts in the country.
Dahida made the call when he visited some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Jalingo, Sabongida and Dananacha communities who were recently displaced by renewed crisis in Gassol, Ardo Kola, Lau and Karim Lamido local government areas of the state.
He said rebuilding such communities ravaged by the crisis across the country required a special fund by the federal government.
“The level of humanitarian crisis going on in parts of the country as a result of conflicts is obviously getting overwhelming for the existing emergency agencies in the country.
“I am not calling for the compensation of the families of those killed in the crisis, but a way of alleviating their suffering,” he said.
The president general noted that while more attention was focused on the Boko Haram crisis, more Nigerians were suffering at various locations across the country over the herdsmen/farmers’ crisis.
He also called on Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba to expedite action to ensure an end to the renewed crisis in the state. (NAN)
