Police authorities in Lagos have confirmed the arrested of another  notorious cult member, Sodiq Shittu  who has been noted for involvement in various murder cases in the Mushin suburb of the state.

Lagos State Police Command  revealed that the suspect supposedly a  member of Black Axe Confraternity, was nabbed on Lawani Street last Friday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said the suspect has under surveillance after he was accused of another at Jibowu, an area believed to be strongly controlled by Eiye Confraternity members.

Braide disclosed:  “Around 9pm on September 13, 2013, a team of policemen attached to Alakara Division, arrested Sodiq Shittu. The suspect is a key member of Black Axe Confraternity and is alleged to have led a team of cult members including one Ashanti, Tunde and Taju aka Orji, to a shoot-out and killed a rival cultist belonging to Eiye Confraternity at the Empire area of Jibowu.

“After the attack, the suspect was said to have fled to Ikeja to avoid arrest but the police remained on his trail. He was finally arrested on Lawani Street. The suspect has been linked with numerous murders in the Mushin area of the state as well as Surulere.”

But Braide said  the police is investigating how he was released from prison previously.

“Last year, he was arraigned in court for murder, but last month he mysteriously regained his freedom. Investigations will reveal this in due course,” she said.
