Saturday Dewakei has been arrested by the State Security Services (SSS) in Abuja after he kidnapped 5 year old, Abubakar Adamu, the son of his next door neighbour.
Dewakei entered his neighbour’s room at Aso ‘C’ Gbagalape, Mararaba area of Abuja through the ceiling to kidnap the boy in April. After effecting his kidnap, he demanded N5 million.
Authorities say the family paid N400,000 to secure the boy’s release, initially paying N100,000 and then N300,000 after the boy was deceased, a tragedy which was unknown to them at the time of payment.
SSS Deputy Director, Operations, FCT Command, Ibrahim Halilu said “Investigation revealed that Dewakei killed the child and dumped the body in a soakaway when the ransom was not paid. He has taken operatives of this service to the scene of crime where the remains of the kidnapped boy were recovered”.
Dewakei, appealed to the boy’s father for forgiveness.
He said, “I did not kill him. The victim was running away and he fell into the soakaway.
“I brought him out, but he had died because his hands were tied. The boy died in my arms; the parents should please forgive me. I only kidnapped him to make small money.”
