Nigerian Army Denies Reports of Friendly Fire, Mutiny

1 Min Read

The Nigerian Army has denied reports currently circulating in the public sphere that soldiers from 21 Brigade have engaged in a mutiny and are shooting at each other.

The Nigerian Army has dismissed the report as mere rumours that are untrue.

Earlier on it was reported that the soldiers drafted to put an end to the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State and around the Sambisa Forest turned against their senior officers.

According to Premium Times, the soldiers had complained of maltreatment and then “began to shoot indiscriminately, threatening to kill any officer who stands on their way.”

General Officer Commanding of the 7 Division of the Army, Brigadier General Victor Ezegwu said there was no truth in the report that soldiers in the 21 Brigade turn their guns on their commanding officers.

Colonel Kukasheka Usman who is the spokesperson of the army also shared pictures of the officers with Ezegwu hugging and talking without any indication of mutiny.
