Immigration ‘Orders’ Foreign Companies To Employ More Nigerians

1 Min Read
Nigerian Immigration Officers

The Nigerian Immigration Service has urged multinational companies in the country to employ more Nigerians into its payroll.

This was stated by the Comptroller-General, NIS, Mohammed Babandede in Abuja.

Babandede said the service would not allow importation of labour into the country at the expense of Nigerians in 2017.

He said, “Nigeria, at this time, wants good money invested in it. But the most important thing is that we want to be able to provide work first for our citizens. We are passing through a difficult time, where work is very important. We will not allow companies that will bring labour force, all from abroad, without giving opportunities to Nigerians to work.

“We will intensify our efforts and set up a lot of mechanism this year, and by 2017, we will do a thorough search of individual companies to make sure each expatriate, especially in the technical field, has somebody under-studying him, who is a Nigerian.

“This will increase opportunities for work in the country. We need good brains so that technology can be transferred, not people that will come with empty briefcases and go away with money from Nigeria.”
