Family and friends of a Nigerian soldier who lost his life while fighting Boko Haram in the North East have taken to Social Media to eulogize him.
Senior Alolo lost his life while fighting for the country against Boko Haram insurgents; the hero has been buried amidst mourning and praises. However, the hero lives on in the heart of people that knew him and the people he died for.
One of his friends wrote about him:
“Service to one’s country that ends so tragically is the highest form of patriotism. Senior Alolo was a true patriot.”
Once among Africa’s strongest and a mainstay of regional peacekeeping, the Nigerian Army has become a flawed force.
The initially slow, heavy-handed response to the Islamist Boko Haram insurgency raised serious concerns, President Muhammadu Buhari has taken some steps to reverse the decline and has recorded significant gains against Boko Haram, but ongoing prosecution of former chiefs for graft have further deepened the military’s reputation as poorly governed and corrupt.
