Calabar carnival: Radio station targets Guinness world record

3 Min Read

A private radio station in Calabar, `Hit Fm 95.9’ on Monday said it has concluded arrangements to set the world record for the longest club party ever, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The party is to complement activities for this year’s edition of the Calabar carnival.

Mr Patrick Ugbe, Chief Executive Officer of the station, said that the party would start on Dec. 14 until Dec. 19 at the Mayfair Lounge, Channel View Hotel, Calabar.

Ugbe said that the station, which is the first private radio house in the state, was embarking on a journey to set the world record of the longest club party in the world.

“We intend to embark on that 120-hours fun party which will start on the Dec. 14 to Dec. 19; 24 hours nonstop dance for five days.

“Should we achieve it by the Dec. 19, we would be the proud holders of the world record.

”We chose to do it at this period because we all know what the city represents at the end of every year.

“This is the period when a lot of people come into the city of Calabar for relaxation, fun, tourism and a warm hospitality.

“Apart from what government is doing by providing the enabling environment, tourism should be fully driven by the private sector’’, he said.

According to him, the station would deploy six DJ’s with a view to ensure nonstop music during the party.

“The biggest beneficiaries of this event would be Calabar and Cross River because when you open the Guinness Book of World Records, what you will see is that this world record was set in Calabar,’’ he added.

Dr Betta Edu, Director General of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said the state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, is a strong pusher of tourism development.

Edu, who said that her team was ready to render medical care during the party, added that Ayade encourages support to the private sector in tourism.

“The governor strongly believes that the private sector should be the strongest driver of the tourism market and that is why we are buying into this vision.

“Secondly, dancing is part of exercise. Dancing improves blood circulation and helps you lose weight and avoid many medical conditions.

“That is why we are putting our weight behind this to see that people can dance and stay healthy. We would support with ambulances, health personnel, drugs and so on,” Edu said. (NAN)
