Health centre: Rotary Club Abuja seeks support for community

2 Min Read

The Rotary Club of Maitama central has called on government, individuals and corporate bodies to build a health centre for Zika Kuchi Community in Mpape, Abuja.

The call was made on Sunday in Abuja by Dr Olu Wilson, the president of the club, who said that Zika Kuchi is a large community of settlers who lack access to portable water and healthcare facilities.

“They don’t even have water, they don’t have any form of health care service. The place is dilapidated.

“We are looking for support to see how we can build a new health care facility, and provide a borehole in that community for the people,’’ she said.

The rotarian said that the condition of the people of Zika Kuchi is pathetic and called for urgent attention and action.

“We are begging for assistance because their condition is very pathetic.

“We need to build this health centre, provide drugs as well as a medical doctor to oversee this health service.”

She said that the Rotary club, as a worldwide humanitarian organization, has been involved in alleviating the sufferings of the poor and helping the less privileged.

“This is what we do often. We go to deplorable villages, adopt these villages and take care of them.’’

“Please help us give this community a life,’’ she pleaded.

On how the Zika Kuchi community was discovered, she replied that what they do is to send out representatives on a search for such communities.

She also said that in this period that the nation is undergoing recession, it is proper to provide a food bank for people who are hungry.

“We are trying to see how we can put food bank in that community.

“In fact, we are working to ensure that we put food banks all over Nigeria where people can go and collect food.’’

In the spirit of the season, Wilson urged Nigerians to show love to one another, adding the IDPs are among those in need. (NAN)
