T.Y. Danjuma Remains A Role Model At 79 – Buhari

2 Min Read
General Theophilus Danjuma

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with his longtime associate and senior professional colleague, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), on the occasion of his 79th birthday.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu.

The President described Danjuma as “one of that rare breed of Nigerian leaders, who have consistently proven themselves able and trustworthy in the varying positions they had occupied in government over time.

“Each of the many times he has been called upon to serve Nigeria, both in the military and as a civilian, his performance has been remarkable.’’

President Buhari prayed that God would grant Danjuma many more years of good health and active service to Nigeria, particularly “as he oversees the incipient effort to develop the North-east of the country, which has been ravaged by Boko Haram terrorists’’.

Retired Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma was born on Dec. 9, 1983, in Takum, Taraba.

Danjuma, a politician, successful businessman and philanthropist, was onetime Chief of Staff of the Nigerian Army between July 1975 to October 1979.

He was also Minister of Defence under the retired Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

Danjuma, who is chairman of South Atlantic Petroleum (SAPETRO), founded the TY Danjuma Foundation in Dec. 2008 to cater for the needs of the less privileged members of the society.

The Foundation’s principal aims are to provide durable advantages through the implementation of development programmes.

Danjuma heads the Committee saddled with the task of rehabilitating infrastructure and resettle Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North-East region of the country.(NAN)
