PDP, APC Clash in Abia, 20 Injured

2 Min Read

No fewer than 20 people have been reported injured as PDP and APC supports clash yesterday in Abia State.

Barely one month after three workers of Isiala Ngwa North council area lost their lives during the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chairmanship primaries in the area, tragedy was averted yesterday as supporters of the PDP, and its All Progressives Congress, APC, counterpart allegedly clashed at Mgboko Obete community in Obingwa council area of Abia state.

According to a report from Vanguard, eyewitnesses said the PDP were on a campaign tour of the area when suspected thugs embarked on destruction of APC posters leading to a free for all.

Narrating his ordeal to Vanguard, the APC councillorship candidate for Ward six, Obingwa council area, Chinonso Friday, who was injured in the attack, accused the PDP of hiring thugs to destroy his campaign posters and attack residents for daring to challenge them.

According to him, “The PDP came on a campaign tour of my community but instead of going for what they came for, they chose to destroy APC campaign posters. When residents of the community confronted them, they attacked them with dangerous weapons. As at now, over 20 residents of my community are receiving medical attention as a result of the injuries they sustained in the attack. If I had not restrained APC supporters from retaliating, many people would have lost their lives. I have reported the incident at the Ohuru Isimiri Police Division and to the PDP.”

But the Abia PPRO, ASP Ogbonnaya Nta said he is not aware of the incident even as a top PDP chieftain in the area said he wouldn’t want to be associated with the issue.
