The leader of a robbery gang, Oyekunle Femi, and his accomplices, Ebenezer Aina and Ediae Mavellows, have been arraigned in the Ogba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly robbing a Chinese woman.
It was learnt that the victim, Mrs. Huang Yun, who lives in the Ikeja area, had problems with the plumbing in her apartment on November 2.
She was said to have asked her engineer, one Sunday, to help her get a plumber.
Sunday was said to have contacted his friend, Olasunkanmi.
Olasunkanmi was reported to have done the work with his apprentice, Femi, who later went back to the house on November 10 with members of his gang, carting away phones, wristwatches and cash sum estimated at about N3m.
A police prosecutor, Raphael Donny, preferred four counts bordering on robbery, assault, and breach of the peace against the suspects.
Donny told the court that the offences were punishable under sections 409, 170, 285 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria.
The charges read in part, “That you, Oyekunle Femi, Ebenezer Aina, Ediae Mavellows and others at large, on November 10, 2016, at about 11.30am at MKO Abiola Garden, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to steal four iPhones, valued at N1.2m, cash sum of N900,000 and $1,250, and two wristwatches valued at N500,000, property of one Mrs. Huang Yun, thereby committing an offence under Section 285(1 and 5a) of the Criminal Law, Vol. 44, Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty before the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Davies Abegunde, and were granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned till December 14, 2016.
