Ondo court remands 25-yr-old over alleged N.22m property theft

An Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Monday remanded a 25-year-old man, Olayemi Ikuyeju, in prison over alleged burglary and stealing of items worth N226,000.

The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, ordered that the accused, who had no fixed address and occupation, be remanded in prison till Dec. 29 when further hearing would commence.

The accused was arraigned on a three-count charge of burglary, stealing and felony.

The prosecutor, Insp Zedekiah Orogbemi, had earlier told the court that the accused on Sept. 28 around 9:30 p.m. at Ogbehin junction in Okitipupa burgled the residence of one Gbenga Omodumiju.

Orogbemi said that the accused stole a clipper valued at N10,000, a gold wrist watch valued N15,000 and a generator valued at N65,000, all totalling N90,000 and belonging to Omodumiju.

He said that the accused on Oct. 2 around 8:30 p.m. at the same place also stole a guitar valued at N15,000 and belonging to one Babatunde Oloye.

The prosecutor added that the accused on Oct. 12 was caught while in unlawful possession of a Smart TV valued at N45,000 and a DVD player with two speakers valued at N7,500.

The accused, he said, was also caught with a yellow generator valued at N65,000 and two wall clocks valued N3,500, all suspected to have been stolen.

Orogbemi said that the offences were contrary to and punishable under sections 360, 390(9) and 412 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006. (NAN)
