Two businessmen were on Monday remanded in prison custody by a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing two clergy men of their cars and other valuables worth N2, 132,000
The accused ,Usman Mohammed and Sani Mohammed from Zamfara, were charged with Conspiracy and Armed Robbery punishable under Sections 6(b) and 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, 2004.
The prosecutor, Insp. Daniel Swende, told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ugbokolo, in Benue to the state CID, Makurdi through a letter dated Oct. 20, 2016.
The letter stated that one Pastor David Odeh of Bishop Okwoche Memorial Methodist High School, Otukpo reported the matter at the Ugbokolo Police Station on Oct. 16.
Okwoche told the police that he was driving his Toyota Avensis car with registration number AKD 98 BF with one Pastor Ocheme from Otukpo to Enugu when they were intercepted by four armed men at Ugbokolo.
He stated that on getting to the back of Benue Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, the four heavily armed men stopped them at a gun point, dispossessed him of his car valued at N2 million, his handset valued at N40, 000 and the sum of N4, 000.
He added that the robbers also collected the sum of N50, 000 and two handsets valued at N38, 000 from his colleague, Ocheme.
The clergy man also stated that the robbers collected his voter’s card, driver’s licence, his First Bank and Access Bank ATM cards from him.
Swende told the court that during police investigation, the stolen car was recovered at Gusau in Zamfara from the accused.
He said investigation revealed that the accused conspired with one Monday (surname unknown) of Ugbokolo and one Alhaji Adamu of Kaduna State now at large to commit the offence.
However, when the case came up for mention, the pleas of the defendants was not taken for want of jurisdiction.
The prosecutor asked the court for another date, saying that investigation into the matter was still in progress.
