2016 AWCON: Director calls for more training for Falcons

3 Min Read

Layi Adesiyan, Director of Youths and Sports, Osun, has urged the coaching screw to intensify Super Falcons’ training.

He made the call ahead of Falcon’s semi final match against Bayana Bayana of South Africa in the ongoing 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON), in Cameroon.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that Falcons defeated Kenyans 4-0 in its last group match at the Stade Municipal Limbe in Cameroon on Saturday.

Adesiyan told NAN that Falcons remained the only national team in Nigeria that always made the country proud.

“They had a good performance in their group match, they ended the group with seven points, we are happy with them that they were able to escape the group match.

“They are moving slowly to claim the eighth title. I’m glad that they defeated Kenyans in their last group match.

“I’m really proud of Asisat Oshoala. She scored in all their games and she scored her sixth goal of the competition’’, he said

Adesiyan urged Falcons to remain focused in their semi final match against South Africa.

“The Bayana Bayana defeated Egypt in their last group match, but I don’t see them as a threat to Falcons because we have better set of players in our team.

“By now, I know the coaching screw should know the necessary thing to do so that we will have a victory at the end match and proceed to the final match.

“Falcons should continue with the fighting and winning spirit, I trust them. They will beat South Africa. We are waiting for them to bring the trophy home’’, he said.

NAN recalls that Bayana Bayana booked their spot in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations semi-finals cruising to a 5-0 win over Egypt in their final group game on Friday.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons must negotiate their way past South Africa on Tuesday to reach the final where they will face the winner between Cameroon or Ghana for the top prize.

Falcons trashed Mali 6-0 in their opening match and drew 1-1 with Ghana in their second match.

Nigeria is drawn in Group B with Mali, Ghana and Kenya.

The 12th edition of the AWCON which started on November 19 will end on December 3. (NAN)
