Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, Primate of all Nigeria Anglican Communion, has urged the Federal Government to protect Nigerians from renewed killings by gunmen across the country.

He made the appeal on Saturday in Abuja at the 2016 Carnival for Christ, with the theme: “Faith in God”,  organised to mark the 27th anniversary of the inauguration of Abuja Diocese.

Okoh, who is also the Bishop of the Abuja Diocese, said recent killings in parts of Kaduna and other states were worrisome and government must take action to protect all Nigerians.

“The Agatu incident has not been forgotten, in fact they have not recovered and now another group; the Enugu incident is there; we cannot continue to have a repeat of such incidences.

“The government is responsible for the protection of the people; that is the essence of good governance.

“We call on the government of this country to bear in mind that they were voted into office by the people and they owe them the responsibility of protecting them.”

Okoh advised Christians in the country to continue to believe and have faith in God in line with the theme of the programme.

He added that with faith in God, true Christians would always overcome every challenges.

“The righteous shall live by faith; God is on the throne and nothing can shake him.

“It may be cloudy now, it may be challenging now, it may be difficult now, but by faith we shall get out of the tunnel and we shall see the light.”

The clergy also charged Christians to look to the future with strength and hope.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme showcased Bible recitations, special songs and match past by different Archdeaconries.

Prizes and trophies were awarded to the Archdeaconries that performed excellently at the match past. (NAN)
