Lai Mohammed says FG has accepted responsibility for the harsh economy

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that the Federal Government has accepted blame for the current economic challenges facing the country.

Nigeria has been faced with serious challenges as a result of unavailability of foreign exchange, low oil export and poor income generation, which has made many businesses to dwindle and caused the masses to live in abject poverty.

Nigerian citizens have expressed their frustration with the APC-led administration, which has crumbled a lot of activities in the nation.

President Buhari, on several occasions, has however promised to stir the country out of its present situation.

The Minister of Information has also stated that the government is aware of the harsh economic recession confronting the nation and noted that they are working towards bringing an end to the recession soon.

He noted that the government is trying to create other means of generating funds in order to sustain the nation.

Mohammed made the remark at the fourth commonwealth public relations congress in Lagos, as contained in a statement by the Minister’s spokesperson, Segun Adeyemi.

According to the statement, the Minister said that the Federal Government will stop making excuses on the situation of things and that uncertainties in the oil industry affects Nigeria’s economy.

He said: “We are not unaware of the harsh effects of the recession on the citizens. We share in their pains and we make no excuses as we continue to work round the clock to ensure that this tough time is quickly brought to an end.

“The good news is that the prognosis for a quick end to the recession is encouraging,” he assured.

Mohammed described the recession as a bend in the road, not the end of the road.

He said the government was confronting the challenge of turning the bend around.

Meanwhile, a group saddled with advocacy for Advancement, Development and sustenance of Democracy in Nigeria, Wailing Wailers, on Tuesday, November 22, advised President Buhari not to run in the 2019 general elections.

In a statement issued to newsmen and signed by Usman Abubakar, the group’s acting national publicity secretary, Wailing Wailers said that the president must go on retirement in 2019 for leading Nigeria into its worst economic recession ever.
