I will fight crimes in Lagos, Ogun, says AIG Aderanti

3 Min Read

The new Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 2, Mr Kayode Aderanti, on Tuesday promised to deploy robust intelligence into fighting the rising crimes and criminality in Lagos and Ogun.

Aderanti made the promise while addressing newsmen on his assumption of office in Lagos.

“I will work hand in hand with the Commissioners of Police in this zone toward reducing all forms of criminality to the barest minimum.

“My mission is to have modern, people-oriented and effective policing of the command through Community/Public Relations and robust intelligence,’’ the AIG said.

The police chief also promised to continue to mop up the hoodlums in Ikorodu, Arepo, Igando, Ibafo and other adjoining areas.

“I have zero tolerance for cultism, and any officer that engages in hooliganism will be made to face the full wrath of the law,’’ he said.

Aderanti said that the police high command had already given orders to the Commissioners of Police to perfect strategies to root out criminals in their respective states.

“We are re-energising and strategising on ways to mop up the hoodlums.

“It is crystal clear that with the present security challenges in the zone, there is definite need for paradigm shift.

“There will be general overhauling of policing strategies and ideological perspectives in having effective security of lives and property in the zone.

“The issue of traffic robbery in Lagos will be addressed through improvement, and policemen will be present in all areas where we have serious gridlock,’’ he said.

Aderanti also urged the society to help the police with any useful information about criminal activities in their areas.

He then warned officers and men in the zone against any unprofessional conduct.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Aderanti took over from Mr Abdul-Majid Ali, who has been transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

NAN reports that Aderanti was among the newly promoted Commissioners of Police to AIG by the Police Service Commission.

Aderanti had earlier served as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State before he was transferred to the Force Headquarters. (NAN)
