The Police in Oyo on Wednesday instituted a criminal charge against a 20-yearold youth, Collins Obi, for allegedly sexually abusing the 10-year-old son of his neighbour.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obi, a teacher with Capstone Mission Academy, Owowaye, Agbokojo, Ibadan, was arraigned before an Iyaganku Senior Magistrates’ court on a one –count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge of a boy.

The Police Prosecutor Cpl.Oluseye Oyebanji told the court that Obi had unlawful carnal knowledge of the boy (name withheld), aged 10, on November 6, at about 6pm at his residence, No. 10 Oredeyin street, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

“Obi serves as Lesson Teacher to other children in the neighbourhood who pay N30 daily for the lesson”.

“On the fateful day, Obi allegedly called the boy to his room and asked him to remove his trouser, after which he had unlawful carnal knowledge (through anus) of the little boy,” he narrated.

The prosecutor said Obi thereafter warned the boy not to mention it to anyone, but the boy told his mother, who reported the matter to the police.

Oyebanji said the offence contravened section 214 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol.II Laws of Oyo state 2000.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence when it was read to him in court.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Muniràt Giwa–Babalola granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case till December 28, for hearing.

NAN reports that if Obi is found guilty of the offence of having sodomy with a minor, he is liable to 14 years in prison. (NAN)
