Trump pledges cooperation on international issues

2 Min Read

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has assured the world that the country under his administration will work with the international community to address major problems.

“We will seek partnership not conflict’’,  70-year-old Trump, who defeated his Democratic party rival Hillary Clinton, said in a victory speech to party faithfuls.

Trump won the Nov 8 election after securing 276 Electoral College votes against Clinton’s 218. His victory came against all expectations as he was led by his rival in opinion polls during the campaigns.

The president-elect had promised to stop immigration, build a wall between U.S and Mexico, as well as adopt unilateral decisions in international fora.

However, in his acceptance speech Trump, who sounded more reconciliatory, said the U.S would be fair to everyone.

He said he would work hard to exploit the “tremendous opportunities’’ in the U.S. to rebuild the country and make every American comfortable.

“We are going to rebuild our infrastructure to get people back to work. Forgotten people will not be forgotten again,’’ he said.

He said it was now time for Americans to come together and work for the country.

“I pledge I will be the president for all and this is important to me. I am reaching out to you so that we can unify and work for our country.’’

He paid tribute to his Democratic party rival, Clinton, saying that she had put in a good fight during the campaign for the White House.

He said the U.S. owed her “a debt of gratitude’’ for her service to the nation for more than two decades. (NAN)
