Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State is presently holding a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja over the violence that erupted in the state this morning.
Thousands of supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akure, the Ondo State capital, this morning took to the streets to protest the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Mr Jimoh Ibrahim as the party’s governorship candidate for the November 26 governorship election in the state.
The protesters, who are from the Senator Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party, want INEC to substitute Jimoh Ibrahim’s name with that of Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN).
Mimiko, who arrived at the villa around 11am, immediately went into the president’s office to discuss the ongoing violence.
Tensions began building in the state on Thursday when INEC published Ibrahim’s name among a list of 26 candidates participating in the November 26 governorship election.
