Food commodities are expensive because we replaced a PhD holder with a French graduate – Reno

1 Min Read

Bemigho Reno Omokri, Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has expressed his view on the reason for increasing prices of food commodities.

According to him, it is because the former Minister of Agriculture, a PhD holder in Agricultural Economics was replaced with Audu Ogbeh, who holds a Masters Degree in French literature.

The former Special Assistant compared the present price of rice to the previous price during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. He stated that rice, which was sold at N8,000 then, is presently N26,000 under the APC regime.

Economic recession, which has almost grounded most activities in the country is said to have had the highest effect on the prices of food commodities.

Recently, the price of rice – which is a staple meal for the average Nigerian, has become almost impossible to purchase because of its expensive rate.

Other food items with increased prices are grains, cooking oil, tomatoes, frozen foods, garri and many others.

Reno also disclosed that the present minister had no plans for agriculture but was rather interested in importing grass from Brazil and creating grazing reserves for herdsmen.
