Nigerian Army arrest two officers, a major and a general for leaking information to Boko Haram

Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai

Two officers are being held by the Nigerian Army for alleged sabotage of the ongoing counter-terrorism operation in the North East.

The army, after commencing a thorough investigation into the operations of its officers, discovered some suspicious activities during the course of screening.

The Nigerian government had intensified efforts to wipe out Boko Haram but most of their efforts were sabotaged by some officers in the Army.

It was gathered that about 13 soldiers were injured during a surprise attack on the Boko Haram sect at Gashigar in the North of Borno state.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, had said that some of its officers were missing during the attack.

The attack had left both the President and the Chief of Army staff Lt. Get. Tukur Buratai astonished.

According  to reports, the Army are also intensifying efforts to unravel the two established cases against the arrested suspects which are the leakage of information on troops movement to the insurgents, and the raising of funds to finance Boko Haram operations through cattle rustling.

It was also gathered that the president was furious over the matter and demanded for a screening in the team.

Suspicions arose because the suspects had links with some civilians and the civilians were traced.

They are said to be revealing vital information to them concerning the activities of the soldiers and their involvement in the attack.

Army spokesman, Usman, had said that investigations were on going in the matter and once it’s been concluded, the military suspects would be arraigned before the court and the military law will take its place.
