MTN, has laid off some of its contract staff. They were given their letters of disengagement September 28th, 2016.
The major section of the workers that were affected were the telecommunications customer call centres.
MTN’s explanation was that the company needed to downsize in order to meet up with the running cost of the company.
Some of the workers in their branches had their salaries slashed from 120,000 to 40,000. This is optional as workers were asked to leave if they couldn’t accept the new offer.
For those that were still interested in the job, they were expected to continue their job at Ibadan, where the company had another branch.
The disengaged workers were seen in the office waiting to be paid their salaries and allowances.
