Islamist-Jihadist sect, Boko Haram has allegedly asked a human rights activist and lawyer, Aisha Wakil to represent it in negotiating with the Federal Government to broker an exchange of the abducted Chibok girls with detained Boko Haram members.
The recent development came days after President Buhari solicited the United Nation’s intervention in negotiating with the terrorists.
According to instablog, Shortly after Buhari’s speech, an audio message allegedly made by a Boko Haram member emerged. In the audio message which was delivered in Hausa language, it is believed the person overheard said Barrister Aisha Alkali Wakil aka Mama Boko Haram should represent the group during negotiations with the government.
A spokesperson for Barrister Aisha Wakil, Lawal Shoyode, and the barrister herself have since both attested to IBTimes UK that Boko Haram had requested representation from her.
Lawal Shoyode said: “There are three Boko Haram factions at the moment and all of them have requested to be represented by Barrister Aisha.”
He added that the first thing which would be negotiated is the release of the Chibok girls.
Wakil, who was recently declared wanted by the Nigerian Army and later released after interrogation, spoke to IBTimes UK directly and said she was willing to negotiate with the government.
She said: “I want total surrender of the boys [Boko haram]. I want them rehabilitated counseled, properly directed, and forgiveness from people. Then we move on. You know the release of Chibok girls and other captives are paramount.
“You also know that some of them are married with kids, sad but manageable. Let them come out and have a new life, homes. Once the boys will keep their stand on peace, dislodge all negative forces, we will be swimming in peace and joy.”
