Some residents of Badagry, Lagos State, on Tuesday decried the several Automated Teller Machine (ATM) machines which did not dispense cash in the area.
A check by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that residents always witnessed such plight most weekends and during public holidays.
NAN reports that there were only eight banks; Zenith Bank, United Bank of Africa, First Bank, Union Bank, Wema Bank, Skye Bank, Diamond Bank and Ecobank in Badagry.
NAN check revealed during most weekends and public holidays, the ATMS were either not working or there was no cash to dispense.
At Zenith Bank and UBA, the gates were shut to customers, while others with open gates, there ATMs were not working.
Long queue were always seen at First Bank ATM stands.
Some customers, who spoke to NAN, expressed their frustration at the usual trend.
Mr Seye Adeite, said that ATMs was working in Badagry during weekends and public holidays.
“It is a normal thing that during the weekends and public holidays, ATMs will not be working in the whole area.
“The hardship we faced because of this issue is becoming unbearable and nobody goes punished for this act of wickedness,’’ Adeite said.
Another customer, Mr Wale Ojo, expressed his displeasure about the situation, saying: `the bank officials knew it was a long break; I wonder why they didn’t make adequate plans for this particular issue.
“It has become a regular thing for the ATMs to always disappoint during public holidays like this. So, the relevant authorities should come to our aids,’’ Ojo said.
Another resident, Mr Mayowa Balogun, said that more banks should be brought into Badagry.
“The cause of this problem is that there are insufficient banks in Badagry so more banks should be brought.
“Also, the banks should provide ATM galleries that would be able to accommodate more machines so as to meet the demands of the people,’’ Balogun said. (NAN)
