Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has approved the release of a special grant of N36.09 million to the College of Education, Oro.
This is contained in a statement signed by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant (SSA), Media, Dr Muideen Akorede, in Ilorin on Saturday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ahmed had earlier released N87 million the fourth quarterly subvention to the state-owned colleges of education.
The state Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu, had noted that the N36m released to COE, Oro, was to assist the school to pay its workers’ salaries.
Banu said that the state government was working with the college management to find a permanent solution to the salary crisis facing the institution.
He also expressed optimism that the Visitation Panel to the collage would come up with relevant recommendations that would assist the government in making the school financially independent.
NAN reports that the state government recently set up a visitation panel to assess the operational practices of the collage; examine the management of its finances as well as assess the relevance of courses offered.
The panel is headed by Prof. K. S. Adeyemi of the Department of Economics, Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete. (NAN)
