Two Nigerian men along with a South African woman have been arrested by the South African Police on Tuesday in connection with an online dating scam.
The three who were arrested in Cape Town were working together to dupe local women seeking love online.
The three according to the South African authorities are between the ages of 27 and 38 years.
The three were reported to have opened bank accounts with all banks in South Africa and have since been using the accounts to dupe unsuspecting internet users.
One of the suspects was caught shortly after the receipt of a dummy parcel from the Hawks at Postnet Somerset West Mall.
Following the arrest, five laptops and 12 cellphones were seized with two of the seized laptops incriminating the arrested persons in the online dating scandal.
The three arrested were arraigned before the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, August 25.
