Enyimba International FC of Aba captain, Chinedu Udoji, says the club will take the remaining league matches like a cup final.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Enyimba on Tuesday, beat Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa 3-1 in a CAF Champions’ league group B match, but crashed out of the tournament after finishing last in the group.
Udoji said in Port Harcourt on Wednesday that Enyimba would strive to finish well in the league to return to the continent next year.
“ We are out of the CAF Champions league. Our remaining games in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the players and coaches will take it like a cup final.
“ We are used to playing in the continent and this year, we will fight to win the league,” he said.
Udoji said that he was optimistic that Enyimba will win the league, though it will be difficult because of the competitive nature.
The captain said the players and coaches were positive in the belief that the club will do well in the remaining league matches.
“ I have a lot of positives going into the league.
“I still have the belief that we can still win the league and qualify for the Champions league because most of our players are used to playing in the Champions league.
“ We have learnt some lessons from our outings in this year`s Champions league. If we get the ticket again, we will do better,” he said.
Udoji said their loss to Zamalek of Egypt at home in their first match affected the team adding that their focus will be on the league. (NAN)
