Edo 2016: Senator advises electorate against selling PVCs

3 Min Read

A National Assembly member, Sen. Francis Alimikhena, on Monday advised the electorate in Edo against selling their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of Sept. 10 governorship election

Alimikhena, who represents Edo North Senatorial District at the Senate, gave the advice at All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rallies in Ozalla, Sobe and Uzebba, all in Owan West Local Government Area.

He told the people to be wary of persons who may come for their PVCs under the guise of assisting them with loan or job.

“The PVC is your property, don’t give or sell it to anybody. We hear they are going about buying PVCs with the promise of giving you loan or jobs.

“Please stop if you have not. They are not sincere; they want to use it to carry out evil plans.

“They know they can’t win election, and in their characteristic ways, they are going about wooing people to sell their cards.

“They know that these cards are meant to punish them for the evil they have done the state in the past,” he stated.

On his part, Chairman of APC in the state, Mr Anselm Ojezua, said that the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, had forged a common front to take the state to the next level.

Ojezua said that the duo, having been part of the success story of Adams Oshiomhole’s government in the past seven years, understood what needed to be done to move the state to the next level.

He also said that APC as a party had justified the confidence reposed on it by Edo people.

“We have tried by constructing roads, building schools, hospitals, and providing water these past seven years. We are, however, not unaware that more still needs to be done.

“Our greatest joy, as a party and people, is that for once, we have shown that Edo state is working, and that more can be achieved.

“It is for this reason that we are again counting on your support, by voting for Obaseki and Shaibu, for governor and deputy.

“Obaseki and Shaibu have been assisting Oshiomhole these past seven years, as executive and legislative members of the government, respectively.

“In them, we are not presenting just a winning team, but a team that will work for the people,” he said.

The governorship candidate, Obaseki, reiterated that his government would improve on the standard of living of the people through massive job creation, empowerment programmes, among others.
