Rapper Olamide has stated why he might not feature any International acts in his songs anytime soon as he is unwilling to pay for any of them to feature on his songs.
The talented rapper who has such hits as ‘Who you epp’ and ‘Shakitibobo’ said that he doesn’t believe he needs the input of any international act to be successful or to place his name on the map.
He said all this in a recent interview and he was of the opinion that he could remain relevant in the Nigerian music scene even if he doesn’t feature any international acts.
The collaboration between local and international acts has been all the rage recently with Drake and Wizkid’s ‘One Dance’ of particular interest as it was on the Billboard charts on number 1.
Olamide while collaborating with many local acts has said that icons such as Fela and others didn’t need an international collaboration to be heard far and wide and remain relevant even after death.
He also stated that he was a fan of street music and that since he made his debut, his music has gone everywhere even outside the shores of the country.
He said, “I will never pay for an international collaboration, Fela never did any international collaboration neither did he lobby or pay for any international collaboration, and his music went as far as all over the world.
“He was relevant while alive and even after his death, his music was much sought after, so why would I want to pay for an international collaboration because I want to remain relevant in the music industry.”
